Caliente: 2018’s Bold, New Color of the Year
Hey Cape Cod, who said we’re not ahead of the curve?
Benjamin Moore just announced their 2018 Color of the Year, and according to our paint department, it’s already quite popular with the locals. The aptly-named “Caliente” is not an ocean blue or a driftwood gray. It’s a strong, radiant red – a color that inspires bold design moves that work surprisingly well with more classic styles.
Home design isn’t the only place bold shades of red have been making a statement. Red is this years’s “it” color on the runway, too – and it’s being paired with everything from soft pinks to quintessential black and white plaids.
But back to your walls, right? Our interior design consultant Rachel Schink gives a nod to the versatiity of such a substantial color. While it might seem radical in a home decor palette, Caliente works cross-stylistically in many different design themes – from traditional, to modern, to coastal. Here are a few pieces of eye candy to get you dreaming of this ravishing red (photos from Benjamin Moore).
Red is nostalgic. It’s fresh and energetic, and can give a classic farmhouse look a jolt of drama.
Red is crisp. The clean lines of a contemporary home (or room) are perked up by shades of red that bring minimalism to life.
Red is powerful. Aside from it’s nautical connection, red adds depth to weathered woods, seaside blues and misty ocean grays.
” I love that Caliente embodies strength, confidence, and groundedness. This bold shade of red evokes feelings of happiness, energy, and love – which is so refreshing right now. If you’d like to experiment in baby steps, try it on your front door in a high gloss, or as an accent color on a bookcase that’s in need of a face lift. If you’re ready to dive all in, try it on in a dramatic dining room. Red encourages the appetite, after all!” – Rachel
There’s nothing like a red front door to pack give your entrance personality.
So if you think it might be time to spice things up, Caliente may be just what the paint doctor ordered. It’s gorgeous on it’s own, and it works beautifully with the rest of the 2018 Color Trends palette. We are excited to explore the endless combinations and design ideas sparked by this color, so stay tuned for more posts, pins and Facebook updates on this subject. If you are already raring to go, you might also take a peek at the new CENTURY Soft Touch Matte Finish paints introduced earlier this year (also by Benjamin Moore – Snow’s was the first retailer on Cape Cod to have the line). Of their 75 colors, this designer collection has ten deep reds that are in a class all their own.
