Easy Ways to Set a Table to Impress
Emily Post reminds us that forks go to the left; knives and spoons go to the right. When it comes to setting a beautiful table – it is helpful to know where everything goes… at least in theory. But nowadays, the table is a place for gatherings of all kinds – from a formal affair to something impromptu and al fresco.
The great news about the new dining rules is that truly, anything goes! That being said, it’s kind of nice to have an expert give you some insider tips. Our staff interior design consultant Maura Jones loves a put together tabletop. Here are some of her favorite ways to make a mouthwatering first impression.
If you are staying within a complementary color scheme, doin’t one afraid to mix up your patterns. Bright, happy woven placemats and checkered napkins accent the colors of these beautiful fish plates… we can never get enough of these coastal colors!
Play with platters
Just like decorating a room in your home, sometimes one statement piece will inspire a theme. For your table, start with a gorgeous platter and make it your centerpiece. Then, work the rest of the table around it – with coordinating table linens, napkin rings, plates and wine glasses.
Go with a theme
Speaking of themes, a Cape Cod table is such a fun one with which to play. So many possibilities! Lobster, anyone?
